Come and experience Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, Henry Knox, and printer Isaiah Thomas as they handle the coming revolution, as seen through the eyes of children.

Did you know that someone else was also warning minute men that the British were coming? How would like to know all about the brave girl that rode even farther than Paul Revere to warn her father? In 1969, a year after getting out of the United States Army, Bob read a book about Collin Fletcher who had hiked across California. From this he gets the idea to be the first one to hike across his own state of Florida.

Come along with Bob and experience his preparation for the trip. Then from the Georgia border he backpacks along small sand roads through "Big Pine" country to and through Osceola National Forrest. Little used grass covered railroad grades help him at times. He uses trails to travel through Osceola and Ocala National Forests. Lake Okeechobee is skirted by walking on the levee. Be with him as he hikes through the Everglades.

The last part of his trip is, "The Hike That Went To Sea". From the mainland out across the many bridges that takes him to the end of his quest, Key West, Florida. (700 plus miles in 5 and a half weeks)

Bob not only starts with equipment that he needs, he also includes an experimental camping item. As he travels along one can see just how he made use of it. This book contains information about animals, birds, and signs that Bob becomes involved with. Historic and environmental facts abound. His story includes hiking through the two largest Seminole reservations, the abuse of the environment, the draining of the Everglades, and the fight to preserve it by Majory Stoneman Douglas. Finally, the technology involved in the construction of Flagler's historic railroad bridges to Key West is something you would not want to miss. This story is a cross-section of Florida as Bob hiked it.

This 320 page book is illustrated with over 100 color and black and white photos, field sketches, and watercolors made by the author.

This book is available to order direct from the author, and from book stores and major websites through IngramSpark.

James, The Young Brown Pelican

This story was inspired by a watercolor I painted of a Pelican sitting on a dock post at the main city, Mallory Docks in downtown key West, Florida. I was roaming around on a one speed bicycle my Uncle Norman had rented for me as I toured the island.

James the Young Brown Pelican has a powerful message. A Young Brown Pelican wants to be different. He is bored because his peers just want to fly along the waves in single file and eat fish all day. He talks to his Grandfather and learns about the Maker of the universe, God, and the need to have faith. This thought is accented when he is visted by a White Pelican that verifies what his Grandfather has told him. The story continues with our pelican, James, fulfilling his adventure and destiny.

This book is fully illustrated in color by very beautiful pelican nature photographs by Ron Reznick. I have also included some photos and illustrations of my own. This book now comes with a 20 page Study Guide for Home School Curriculum at no additional cost.

Florida Keys' Watercolor Kapers

FKC.png

The anticipated sequel to A Walk Across Florida. After Bob ended his hike he decided to stay with his Uncle and Aunt and roamed Key West. While in Key West, FL, Bob got the chance to paint many beautiful watercolors and sketches of the area. These sketches inspired many stories. The stories take place in the 1800s until 1969. One story will even take you to the dawn of creation when God formed the Cayman Island Chain. There are many historical points in the stories: like stories from World War 2, Cuba, The Bay of Pig Invasion, and many more. Some of the stories are short and some are longer, but you will find yourself challenged and inspired as you read each one. This novel is complete with the watercolors and sketches that Bob created in Key West, many in FULL COLOR.

American Hiker

Grab a piece of history! American Hiker was a magazine, self-published by Bob in October of 1972. It came out approximately one year before the now famous Backpacker magazine. This was an era of no computers. All copy has to be set by IBM Selectric typewriter and then waxed with bees wax to put on the cardboard layout boards. The layouts were then shot with a copy camera and negatives were used for printing.

Bob completed four issues of the magazine before the money ran out. At that time he was in many major backpack stores, had some advertisments by major manufactures, and some subscribers. It was a fun project and many trips were made to Colorado in the west and the Smokey Mountain National Park in the east for input on the content for the magazines.

Soon you will be able to have all four original American Hiker magazines bound under one cover. You may ask yourself, though, is this all old information? Well all of the mountains and trails are still there. You may find something of interest in the American Hiker of old.
